Week 13: Australia

Out of all the presentations we have had this semester, the place I want to go to the most is Australia. I would want to go to Australia because I recall hearing that Australia is rich in natural resources, which is leading to a large economic boom. This will especially mean a high demand for engineers. Since I plan on becoming an aerospace engineer, I would probably work for a private Australian aerospace company, or for a foreign office of a company such as Boeing. I would probably want to stay in Australia for 5 to 10 years. This would give me enough time to get to know my coworkers and become friends with many of them. In order to achieve this goal, I will need to look at the study abroad programs that Purdue offers and utilize this resource. Once I graduate, I will apply to aerospace companies in Australia, or U.S. companies with offices in Australia.

  1. It is good that you already have a strong mindset on what you want to do after college and where you want to go. I also thought that the presentation about Australia was interesting and I do think that their abundance of natural gases and resources will definitely cause their economy to grow in the future. I think that studying abroad would be the best way for you to go to Australia and see if it is the right place for you. I think that Australia would be near the top of my list for the best international countries to work in because I think the people there would be very friendly and the weather would also be pretty nice in cities near the coast. 2. Australia is one of my top choices as well. I need to do more research on the opportunities available for mechanical engineers, the profession I would like to go into. As of now my reasons for going is for all of the outdoor adventures and the beautiful scenery. I'm impressed that you would want to stay for 5 to 10 years. I think that would be pretty hard, but if you develop those relationships you desire to make over that time, I think you'll do great! I hope you get to experience Australia during your semester abroad if you choose to do so. Dive into all the fun activities available and the vegemite. We had an Australian exchange student who brought us all sorts of unique food. Good luck with achieving your goals as an aerospace engineer!
