For my group’s Digital Archive project, we plan to gather information of the pop-icon of the past half-century, Michael Jackson. But because there is a lot of mystery surrounding his later years, as well as controversy surrounding him that can’t be verified as fact, we are going to focus our archive of the early years of Michael Jackson’s life. This archive will likely be about his early performing years in “The Jackson Five”, and how his relationships with others, such as his father Joe Jackson, shaped his life and later career. We may take about some of the rumors surrounding his life, but since they can’t be verified, we will emphasize that this information is not fact, but speculation and rumors. We may even go beyond Michael Jackson’s years in “The Jackson Five” up to when he became a solo artist and was really popular in the 1980’s. As most people know, this is the era of the Pepsi commercial incident, where, during filming for a Pepsi commercial, Michael Jackson’s hair was set on fire by fireworks, and he sustained enough injury to warrant the need for pain medication. He became addicted to this pain medication, thus being a major factor in the shaping of the rest of his life. One of the speculations we may cover in our archive is the report, from Michael himself, that Joe Jackson beat him as a boy. Joe denied these allegations. Medical professionals believe that the alleged abuse could be a likely cause to the skin condition Michael Jackson developed later in life, which turned spots of his skin a lighter color. This led him to undergo a procedure to turn all of his skin white, which was the color of the pigmentation. This action would forever change the face of Michael Jackson.

Your topic is awesome. There are many interesting things we can explore and discuss about Michael Jackson. He is like a symbol of modern pop music and dance. Also he is the idol of many people around world. I think there are no other people who can have such lots of fans coming from all around the world. Even after he died, people still can't forget him. On the contrast, more and more people begin to like his music and dance. Many young people or people from other countries didn't know lots about him before his last concert. His death caused another crazy time and many people know him and begin to like him. I think he is a legend. It's true that there is a lot of mystery surrounding his later years, as well as controversy surrounding him that can’t be verified as fact. But in my mind, no matter what the facts are, he is huge star forever. (ENGL 106)
ReplyDeleteI think that Michael Jackson is a very interesting person to do this project on because of the insane amounts of fame and attention that he has received throughout his life, both positive and negative. I also think that it is a good idea to focus on the early and more successful years of Michael Jackson’s life because there really is a lot of information that can be supported by unbiased facts compared to his life later on, in which there were a lot of rumors and accusations. I think that people are more familiar with Michael Jackson’s solo career and the controversies that he was involved in, compared to his early life. I think many people do not know too much about his childhood or his teenage years. Maybe you could also talk about his many siblings and how their support for him shaped his career choices. Using Michael Jackson for the digital archive project should be a lot of fun since there are many photos and videos of him that you guys can use. (ENGL 106)
ReplyDeleteI like how you are doing Michael Jackson. He is the king of pop and anyone of are generation will know who is automatically. I worked at a kids camp this summer and to my amazement some of the kids did not know who Michael Jackson was. I was horrified. I think this is good because we need to get the word out for people who don’t know who Michael Jackson is. We need to educate the young people on the huge cultural figures, such as Michael Jackson, Elvis, Billie Mays and all the other cultural touch stones that we had but they missed.
