Over Thanksgiving, I have many things to do besides catching up on sleep. One of the most important things I must do is work on my team’s project presentation for ENGR 131. I will need to go over our past milestones and fix them. I will also try to get some sweet Minecraft-playing time in. Just last night I spent 7 hours playing Minecraft. I have now constructed my first fortress; it’s nothing fancy, just enough to protect me once I turn off Peaceful Mode. My fortress is constructed directly over a mine a built which doubled as a base of operations up until now. At the beginning of the game, I just decided to dig straight down as long as I could, and when I hit bedrock, I began to expand outward, eventually excavating a large area. Previously, my only means of returning to the surface was by killing myself in a lava flow I had found, and getting back down safely proved since the drop was probably the equivalent distance of a kilometer. To remedy the latter issue, I dug a trough from nearby water and let it flow down the shaft. I would then safely ride the waterfall down. I still had to kill myself to get back to the surface, so as soon as I had the resources and time available, I removed the waterfall and installed a ladder. This made things much easier. My next goals will be to begin farming and collecting animals in a pen. I also hope to set up a mine cart track that will take me down to my mine from inside my fortress. I also hope to soon construct weapons and armor so I can begin to actively seek out and kill the malevolent mobs. Anyways, I hope to begin some of this stuff during Thanksgiving break. And who knows, I might get some sleep?

Sleep or Minecraft?

I envy you. I can’t play mine craft on my computer because of how old my computer is. That must have taken a lot of time. What are you going to try and build after the fortress? I suggest something really big and extremely nerdy, such as a fully made reproduction of the Millennium Falcon.
ReplyDeleteIt seems we don't have lot of homework to do during the Thanksgiving Break. I am glad that the library project is almost finished. We only need to spend times on ameliorating the whole project and designing a wonderful poster. I hope these works would be easier than concept reduction and model designing because I also need to spend time on the final project of English class and the final exams. Mine craft is a good way to kill time. It needs too much time to build a wonderful building, but I think it worth the time. Cody showed his building to us in the English class and it took him almost one year. The building is huge and likes a maze. I wonder how he could get out if he forgets where the gates are. Kill himself or break the walls? I can’t wait for the Thanksgiving. I need sleep!!! (ENGL 106)
ReplyDeleteAlthough we should all be working on the final revisions to the ENGR 131 design project and the digital archive project for ENGL 106, I’m sure that many of us who are going back home will not really have much time to think and worry about school. Before Mr. Reimer showed us the gameplay of Minecraft in class, I had never really known what the game was or what it was about. I think Minecraft is actually a pretty unique and vast game for players to get really creative. The game is pretty much limited to the player’s imagination and it has some pretty good themes for a very simply displayed video game. I know that Minecraft can consume an enormous amount of time, but I think that many players continue to play the game because of the satisfying feeling they get when building grand and magnificent structures or systems. It can also be argued that Minecraft requires players to make engineering choices when creating these complex systems. (ENGL 106)
ReplyDeleteOh Engineering. I cannot count the ways in which that class decides to torture us. Two big projects coming up right after thanksgiving are the digital archive project for ENGL 106 and the final presentation for ENGR 131, of course.
ReplyDeleteComing to Minecraft, it really is quite an addictive game. If you go on playing it without looking at the clock, it would be light outside when you started and dark when you were done. But of course, we do have time to burn during Thanksgiving, for a change.

Dude, bro, man, I have some words of advice for you when you consider not sleeping and goofing off. I am an expert in goofing off and not sleeping, and this is why I am not doing well in calculus. This is not good because I need calculus to do well in engineering. I would think that you have to do well in engineering also. I goof off and then I end up taking naps the whole next day. In class I am not focused like I could be. ESPECIALLY in calculus which is my worst grade. I got really need to figure out how to get to bed on time in order to focus and learn. That’s why I came to purdue and I need to take advantage of it. So for real man, consider getting sleep. I honestly think it’s a good thing, and I got to improve too. I am not trying to be your mom and tell you what to do but I am just looking out for you. If you can stay up and play games and still do well in school then, I am impressed. If you can do that, keep doing what you do and play those games. Engl06
